"In these mountains, there are many sources, and it snows all year round. Here, no one enforces the law,and no one abides by it. The inhabitants are immoral, unrefined and very poor" (Leo,111)

On their way back from the Sahara , lighter caravans charged with only slaves and gold, trekked the remaining journey through the Atlas mountains, into Marrakech. Driving the long and windy road from the Draa Valley to Ouarzazate, we got a taste of the perilous journey that awaited these exhausted merchants, as they struggled with heights, cold and sometimes snow. Our dare devil, semiconscious driver sped past the tight turns, displaying his race car abilities to a car load of women (remember, they fit up to 7 people in the Grand Taxi- that is 6 women and one hormonal driver!), reminding us that even the end of a journey can be full of surprises....
